15 Second Record Review - Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night by Besnard Lakes
The followup to their excellent sophomore effort Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse, BL Are the Roaring Night is even more sweeping and truly masterful. The same aesthetic is present here - that sort of orchestral forrest rock, but with a raw subtlety not found in bands of the archetype (Blitzen Trapper, Midlake) - but the new album punctuates the plodding tempos with occasional bursts of guitar and vocal emotion that equals or exceeds anything I've heard this year. Simply stated, this is an early candidate for album of 2010 and is an absolute must-buy. A+
