Bon Iver released its video for the single "Holocene" yesterday. Frankly, I find the song derivative, and I'm more than a little annoyed with how popular this band has become, but the video is remarkable for being filmed entirely in Iceland. Looks like the excellent Edible Audible free Monday electronic concert series is not coming back for 2011. Instead, Millennium Park is expanding the daily lineup of free lunchtime shows to be a little more diverse, including Jazz, Blues and Beyond on Mondays, Electric Picnic’s electronic sounds on Saturdays and American Roots on Sundays. The ever earnest local heroes, Smoking Popes, played a spirited end-of-tour extravaganza that served mostly as a best-of/feel-good discography, not that 1/2 capacity crowd was complaining. Always a lively act, the band thankfully paid only moderate attention to their latest release, focusing instead on their decade-old hits, but played with aplomb and fervor. Buzz-worthy.
